"Why not," I responded just like the village idiot.
That was a sluggish start our great camp out experience. Neither, my partner nor myself, were campers. All you need to do is obtain the best equipment and you are set, right? Wrong, approximately wrong, as well as on so many levels.
I must boost the comfort was fun looking for all the goodies needed for a great camping adventure. The tent, down filled sleeping First Endurance EFS bags, a lantern, cooking utensils, stove, fishing rods and reels, and those cute little lures. Those lures were adorable, it was like searching for earrings. The shopping developed into the best part of our own camp out. We literally spent hours shopping, together a blast choosing the best tent. It needed to be comfortable enough for just two adult, two children (ages seven and eleven), and a couple dogs. We walked out and in of numerous tents prior to buying the perfect one. It was a humdinger, an actual tent extravaganza, sufficient to throw a circus in. Well, maybe not the it turned out big.
The week of the camp out, i was all busy and excited planning and having ready for the trip. We were going to a state park a few hours away. We had never attended that state park before, figured it needed to be a perfect camp destination, in fact, it is a state park.
Friday came, none to soon. The girls were animated and giggling, as they anticipated all of the fun they were going to have. I had drinks and groceries iced down inside ice chest, the chips and also other yummies in bags, and a fried chicken dinner packed to the most delightful picnic basket.
All that was missing was my workaholic husband, who although was taking off early, was running late, as usual. He filled the station wagon with gas on his way home, and backed the car in to the garage to make it more accessible for loading. He dashed inside house, changed clothes, and to make up for lost time (we had arrived losing daylight), frantically threw the camping equipment within the back with the wagon, and slammed the threshold shut.
He came inside and announced we were ready to go. The girls gathered up their dogs and now we proceeded to the garage.
We stopped dead inside our tracks, if we realized the car was filled up with smoke. I hurried girls and their dogs back inside house. My husband, not seeing any flames, opened a corner door from the car. He had shut the auto door on the box of matches, hence the smoke. He squeezed the smoldering matches manageable without major incidence. I shutter to think what might have been: gas tank full, car, expensive camping gear, garage, garage attached towards the house.
The smoke cleared out in the car, we again started on our camping adventure. We stopped, in a little country store, just away from park, and bought minnows for bait.
Once inside park we hunted for the best camp site, then finally settled for almost any camp site. I never realized so many people went camping.
It really should have been taken as an omen, when we found a horse tail, a whole horse tail, full of cockle burs right then the tent needed to be erected. I guess, someone got sick and tired of pulling out the burs and whacked from the horse's tail. The tail was dumped in a nearby garbage receptacle. We setup camp as well as the tent. It was now dark, not the gorgeous dark with all the moon reflecting off of the lake, but dark like spooky dark. We took our picnic inside tent, to get out of the rain. Yeah, are you able to believe it? It was raining and also the wind had found considerably.
It would have been cozy fun, the glow in the lantern, children with their small dogs, using a picnic, whether it had not been to the wind. The wind was relentless, it whipped at the tent like a demon demanding entrance. The girls was pale, since we discovered the horse tail, now these folks were ghostly white. The dogs whimpering and pacing nervously in circles around us certainly didn't assistance to calm our nerves.
You could hear a cacophony, of noise, beyond your Camp Kitchen tent. The wind was in an actual frenzy, causing the tent walls to heave in and out, it was like being inside bowels of some hideous monster. It wasn't hard to envision tree limbs being tricked and hurling about, or even a tail less horse whirling around inside agitated air.
Our plush sleeping bags laid unused about the tent floor. Sleep would escape us; or should I say, sleep may not catch us. We were terrified.
It was inevitable, our seven year old painfully declared she had to go the bathroom. She was so pathetic in their admission and plea, her eyes were brimming with tears; one blink and it was waterworks definitely.
A bolt of lightening so close it lit up everything like high noon. The thunder followed immediately, vibrating the tent and rattling our teeth.
That made it happen. "Everybody, load up we're away from here," my partner said inside a booming voice. It must be booming to get heard over the wrath of nature.
The girls and I got everything, inside the tent, together. My husband, not lucky, he'd to get the stuff outside the tent. The girls, the dogs, the camping gear, and myself, sat inside car, while the man from the family, fought the elements and disassembled the tent. I panicked when I lost sight of him, and almost jumped beyond my skin when he opened the rear door and tossed within the tent and minnow bucket. The reason I lost sight of him? He went on the lake to free the minnows.
The cacophony of sound was other campers...leaving. We could experienced our range of any camp site inside park.
The storm was waning even as went out the park entrance, but there were our fill of First Endurance EFS camping. It was home or bust. Oh yeah, we did have to make one stop, beyond necessity.
We listened on the news on our way home, and learned there was two tornadoes inside area. Whew! Close call.
And think about all that fancy camping equipment? We love it. Turns out it's not necessary to leave home to camp out. The best part of camping is likely to back yard? It storms, you go inside house; you tell scary stories and acquire scared, you go in the house; nature calls, indoor plumbing a blessing will no longer First Endurance EFS Liquid Shot - 6 Pack Reviews overlooked.
